TDS and Polarteknik have also been heavily involved in another key area of train door system development, the installing of door system technologies to enable greater access for people with reduced mobility (PRM).
With Interfleet Technology and Porterbrook Leasing, TDS and Polarteknik have been working on modifying the width of the vestibule door access and also installing a brand new electrical door control system, electrical door control unit (EDCU) on the Class 158 fleet of vehicles. This allows people with reduced mobility to safely navigate the door and its systems. This is all part of an ongoing upgrade on national train services to fulfill the government’s 2020 PRM requirements.
